St. George’s Parade

Manchester Terriers at the St Georges Day Parade

Manchester Terriers are now a well-established and popular part of the St George’s Day Parade in Manchester, and all are welcome to join in the fun. The parade takes a couple of hours to walk 2.5 miles and meet and greet the crowds that welcome us. It is always held on a Sunday closest to St George’s day.

More about the Parade

2016

As usual the crowds were very supportive and gave us a lovely welcome. A great many of the spectators were able to make a fuss of the dogs, and quite a few children had treats pressed into their hands to feed eager Black and Tan mouths. We had quite a few new faces joining us, and lots of
familiar ones too. We had a record number of Manchester Terriers, 22 in total, including 3 generations of one family.

St George’s Day 2024 News

The Annual St Georges Day Carnival Parade this Sunday 21st April 2024 will leave Varley Street, Miles Platting at 12 noon. The organisers ask us to approach from Bradford Road, M40 7AS which takes you into Varley Street. Marshals will have closed the road but if you say you are part of the ‘Manchester Terriers’ they will let you through. Parking is on the Mill car park on the left after you have gone over the canal bridge, at the junction of Varley St and James St – what3words for the entrance is: device.bulb.grant.
We can assemble from around 10.30am onwards, and we are number 15 in the Parade. The numbers will be on the pavement. There is usually a butty van opposite the car park and portable toilets on the right-hand side at the far end of Varley St just before you get to Oldham Road.
Please wear red and white, or period costume, and dress up your dogs as much as you like – but most importantly be comfortable!! We will be walking for around 2 hours albeit slowly.
