Ragley Hall Game fair 2021

Last weekend 15 people and 23 Manchester Terriers set off to Ragley Hall in Warwickshire to promote the Breed at The Game Fair 2021. The focus point is the Breed Stand in the Terrier Pavilion, but this is just one part of the whole warehouse of opportunities offered at this Event to show off what versatile Manchesters can do. Every day we had a Terrier Parade in the Horse & Hound ring, where we could talk about the history and current day activities that the Breed excels at and allowed comparison with the other Terrier breeds in the ring. There was a have-a-go Agility ring which we made full use of, and of course everywhere you walk people stop you to ask about them. Then there was the Racing in the MAIN RING! We didn’t race on the Friday as it was far too hot, but we arrived at 12 noon sharp on the Saturday en masse and ready for action. The commentator (who knows us of old) spotted us and gave a brief synopsis on the breed to the watching hordes. The Official Display Team then did their bit, which I have to say was pretty underwhelming, with only one of their mixed bag of working terriers managing to run the full distance in the huge ring. Step up the Manchesters, and with a bit more description from the Man with the Mike, a display of what Terrier Racing is really about ensued. We went back on Sunday and repeated the masterclass and are formally booked for next year!

A lovely photo of Sheldon Walker and Ash Harrison plus handlers appeared in the Official Programme advertising the Racing, and in the Game Fair wrap up video on their FB page there is a clear footage of Blue Wicker and Penny Walker racing, so lots of good publicity for us.

The weather was very kind and we had long walks in the early morning and the evenings around the deserted car parks, and on the last night we trooped up to the Entrance for a group photo, courtesy of the lovely Linda. Whilst posing in a very ad hoc way an official buggy came past and the lady in it also took a photo, promising to send it to the Game Fair Media Team – fingers crossed!

Thanks to John & Brenda Harrison, Paul Clarke, Linda Walker, Dave Fowler, Dawn & Chris Boot, Carol Wicker, Chris Parry, Bryn Greenaway, Sue Pinkham and Ann Mason. Special thanks to Judy Thurlow our Terrier Co-ordinator who with admiral composure and calm surmounted tribulations and averted crises when the new Game Fair regime hadn’t quite grasped our needs and got everything sorted for us. Our 4-legged heroes were: Sadie, Dottie, Eric, Ruby, Sheldon, Penny, Cooper, Stella, Joy, Reggie, Phoebe, Blue, Chloe, Celyn, Topaz, Gypsy, Kita, Tilda, Lexi, Katie, Ash, Teal and Sophie. It was also lovely to meet and welcome those Manchesters and their handlers who were enjoying a day out.
