The glorious sunshine this weekend meant that we had our work cut out keeping cool at the Living Heritage Country Fair at Tabley in Cheshire. We were extremely fortunate to have been allocated a north facing stand, so started the day off with good shade which just increased as the day went on! We took part in lots of the activities on offer, which included two Breed Parades per day with a lively introduction from the Master of Ceremonies, Kevin, who it has to be said does appear to have a soft spot for the MTs. The nature of these events is that whilst the members of the public who are looking for you will make a point of visiting the stand, taking the dogs out to show their capabilities in events such as the Terrier Racing, Fun Dog Show, the Have-a-Go Agility, Fastest Recall and the Gun Dog Scurry means that the Breed is brought to the attention of an audience previously unaware of their existence. So many people came to the stand to say they had never heard of the Breed and a great many were keen to learn what they are like to live with and are hopefully now continuing to research the Breed. Those working their paws off were Dottie, Mr D., Grace, Fred, Tiggy, Izzy, Kaos, Cleo, Sophie, Ash and Teal. We were also delighted to see Martha again who was also working her paws off in a different part of the Show in the historical re-enactment with Victoria Lloyd Willoughby. For the younger generation, Amelia you did a fantastic job of telling the crowds about Freddie in Saturday’s parade and thoroughly deserved the HUGE rosette you were awarded by Kevin! Kaos you now officially have the Waggiest Tail in the north-west and Mr D your reign in Veteran classes remains unsurpassed. Lesley’s nephew Anton joined us and his calm and methodical handling of Ash for three days of Terrier Racing and a steep learning curve saw them deservedly victorious on the last day. Thanks also to John Harrison, Lesley Olbinson & Elsie Olbinson, Nicola J Williams, Martin Kirkbride, Amber Leigh Smith, and Daniel Lasko for bringing your enthusiasm and willingness to share your knowledge of the Breed. Special thanks to Brenda Harrison who could not join us this time but spoiled us all by sending her legendary Carrot and Walnut cake along with John who did a fair imitation of Loaves and Fishes with it.
