Sadly but not surprisingly, the Pet Sow at the NEC has now been cancelled. It’s such a shame that we lost all our breed stands at the Game fairs and other events throughout this year. They are a fantastic opportunity for people to see our fabulous breed and watch them at full speed competing in the racing, which the MT”s absolutely love!!! A great social event for the owners too!! Fingers crossed we will be able to resume this fabulous way to promote the versatility of our wonderful breed in 2021!!!!
The BMTC VSOF has a obedience challenge, set by Ann Harrison and a Rally one, set by me, running at the moment. Both have a beginners and aN advanced option to have a go at. Head over to the BMTC VSOF FB page and give it a go, you’ll be surprised what your MT can do!
Don’t forget to get your pictures in for the Art competition too!! Some fantastic ones in the album already, remember the top prize is your picture on future BMTC merchandise!!!!

This weeks getting to know the committee introduces a couple of our newer committee members:
Elaine House – Committee Member:
1. Where do you live? – Somerset on the beautiful Somerset Levels.
2. How long have you been a BMTC member? – 10 years ( first year on the committee)
3. What brought you to our breed and how long have you owned an MT? – My daughter wanted another Terrier breed but one without a coat that needed lots of work. We met some Manchester Terriers at Crufts and collected Marvin our first Manchester in December 2009!
4. What’s your favourite food and drink? -Roast Beef with Yorkshire puddings! Tea in the day and Gin in the evenings.
5. What’s your most embarrassing MT moment? – Marvin relieving himself on the green carpet at Crufts!
6. What’s your greatest success with your dog/s? – Watching my Daughter and homebred dog Lollie winning the Terrier Group at Darlington last year!
7. What bad habits do you have? – Playing too much candy crush! Currently on level 4293.
8. What’s your favourite BMTC activity/activities? – The fun weekend especially the games!
9. If you could change anything in your life past or present then what would that be? – Nothing, life is what it is!
10. How many dogs do you own and what breeds? – I officially only own half a Manchester Terrier called Rita as well as our retired sheepdog Wylye. But my daughter has 3 Manchester Terriers (Marvin, Lollie and Gloria) and Joules a 1 year old Bracco Italiano.
11. What do your dogs do that make you smile? – They always want cuddles!
And Juliet Morris– Committee Member:
1. Where do you live? – Wild Welsh Wales
2. How long have you been a BMTC member? – BMTC member since 2009. Just joined the Committee (February 2020)
3. What brought you to our breed and how long have you owned an MT? – Looking for a working dog for our farm of vulnerable native breed sheep and cattle, I saw an article on vulnerable native dog breeds. It pictured ratcatcher ‘Jack Black’ and Chris Garrett’s Inka. I was spellbound (forever).
4. What’s your favourite food and drink? – Protein (for fitness) and alcohol (to drown my missing carbohydrate sorrows).
5. What’s your most embarrassing MT moment? – When Dot shot out of our Grade 5 Agility ring to join the adjacent Champ Finals, snaffled a front row spectator’s ice cream, and shot back to complete our faultless (but disqualified) run with a flourish.
6. What’s your greatest success with your dog/s? – Winning into Grade 5 Agility, running the first MT pair in the Canix Fur Nations ‘Extreme’ class and, best, having my own KC name, Llygota  (Welsh for ratter), and seeing 26 new MT lives into the world.
7. What bad habits do you have? – Using language that my dogs know to be emergency commands … and occasionally having to use it in earshot of others who might know it as ‘less than polite’.
8. What’s your favourite BMTC activity/activities? – What’s not to love about anything involving a ManchesterTerrier?
9. If you could change anything in your life past or present then what would that be? – Not having a MT take charge of my destiny sooner than 2009.
10. How many dogs do you own and what breeds? –  Four – and all MTs. (See above, my destiny lies in the paws of others.)
11. What do your dogs do that make you smile? – That, in their heads, they are lions amongst dogs – the quickest, fittest, fiercest, strongest, bravest … and then we spot a feather on a track or there’s a man in a wide-brimmed hat or a shopping bag on a worktop or a window rattles in the wind.
Lovely to see Mooches taking place around the country last weekend, Louise Plant and Suson O’Boyle let one on Brean Sands on the Saturday, report in next weeks addition, there was a mini Mersey Mooch up north, with 8 MT’s and even one on the Isle of Wight!!
These really are one of the best events for you MT’s, they relish each other’s company, puppies gain confidence and owners get to see how they interact with each other, after all only a Manchester really knows how to play with another Manchester!!!!!
It’s also a great opportunity for prospective owners to come along and have a good chat with those of us who are already hooked on the Black and Tan terrier and to see them in a perfect environment!!!
Keep an eye on the BMTC FB pages and our BMTC website for future Mooches!!!!!!

Have a good week.
